Code Veronica returns in 2027

12

The remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica just kicked off Summer Game Fest. No big reveal of mechanics, just a teaser. And it’s beautiful, probably. Like the others. Fans know what that means by now—gorgeous visuals, new lore, and the usual dread.

So when does it drop?

“2027.”

That is the only timeline provided. If history holds true—and it rarely doesn’t—expect a cold release. February or March. The witching hours of the gaming year.

The trailer itself? Cryptic. An older European woman guides a figure through a ransacked room belonging to an American. We wait for the punchline. The twist.

It is Claire Redfield. Claire Redfield. Chris’s sister. The heart of the original 2000 Dreamcast title.

Code Veronica isn’t a side quest, but it isn’t exactly canon central either. It occupies that strange limbo space. Events happened there. They matter. Claire searches for Chris after Raccoon City burns. She breaches Umbrella. She gets captured. Shipped out. To the Southern Ocean prison island.

There, she digs up secrets about Umbrella’s birth and a nasty little mutation called the T-Virus Veronica.

Then the switch happens. You play Claire. Then you play Chris.

Chris heard about her capture. He followed her. To another facility, this time in Antarctica. Halfway through the nightmare, the player’s hand changes. He joins the fight. Together they take down Alexia and Alfred. Grandchildren of Sir Edward Ashfound. The Ashfounds helped build Umbrella. Now they want to tear the world down.

No platform news came with the hype. But look at the trends.

  • PC
  • PS5
  • Xbox Series X|S

And maybe, just maybe, the Nintendo Switch 2 if it still exists by then.

It will be available on them. Or we wait another year. And another.

What do you remember about the ice?
