Apple unveiled its next-generation Studio Display lineup, including both a standard Studio Display and the high-end Studio Display XDR, just ahead of its planned “Special Experience” event. Preorders begin today, March 4th, with units shipping March 11th. The new monitors target professional users requiring top-tier display performance.
Pricing and Availability
The standard Studio Display starts at $1,599, while the Studio Display XDR carries a higher price tag of $3,299. This pricing reflects the significant technological differences between the two models, catering to varying professional needs.
Studio Display: High-End Features for Creative Workflows
The core Studio Display features a 27-inch 5K Retina display, designed for tasks like video editing and 3D design. It incorporates a 12MP Center Stage camera for video conferencing, an improved microphone array with three elements, and a spatial audio-capable six-speaker sound system. These additions position it as a fully integrated workstation component.
Studio Display XDR: The World’s Best Pro Display?
The Studio Display XDR represents Apple’s top-tier offering. The company claims it features “the world’s best pro display,” equipped with a 27-inch 5K mini-LED backlight display and a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother motion handling. With a peak brightness of 2,000 nits for HDR content and over 2,000 local dimming zones, the XDR aims for unrivaled color accuracy and contrast.
“Apple has led the industry in delivering the world’s most advanced displays for pros to do their life’s best work, and today we do that once again with the introduction of the new Studio Display family,” stated John Ternus, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering.
Part of a Broader Product Push
This launch is part of a larger wave of new Apple products revealed this week, including a budget iPhone and a new M4 iPad Air. The company is strategically updating its product lines to address various market segments.
The new Studio Displays emphasize Apple’s commitment to high-end professional tools, but the premium pricing suggests these monitors are aimed squarely at users who require the best possible display technology.
